Building Up People and Community
At the International Academy of St. Petersburg, Russia, we talk and deal with many issues about living here, especially the dark winter months. Recently, we had bombings in the same Metro that our students and staff use on a daily basis, and a friend of some students died. It was scary and unnerving. Yet, God is watching over us. In this world of evil, our students are a light to the world.
I help with “Friday at Five,” a get-together for kids at the school and their friends. (The group is pictured above.) We talk about God and build each other up. It is a way for students and leaders to build community and to talk about God. What I have seen here most is that community and people matter. The unity that the staff and students have is what keeps me going during the dark times. The fact that we have God at our center is what keeps this school going. I am proud of my students that I talk to and teach every day.
I have been blessed to be a part of this community of believers: people who care about each other and about bringing God to St. Petersburg through teaching and our unity.
