St-Petersburg-Friday-at-Five

Featured Five: Opportunities #7

Building Up People and Community

At the International Academy of St. Petersburg, Russia, we talk and deal with many issues about living here, especially the dark winter months. Recently, we had bombings in the same Metro that our students and staff use on a daily basis, and a friend of some students died. It was scary and unnerving. Yet, God is watching over us. In this world of evil, our students are a light to the world.

I help with “Friday at Five,” a get-together for kids at the school and their friends. (The group is pictured above.) We talk about God and build each other up. It is a way for students and leaders to build community and to talk about God. What I have seen here most is that community and people matter. The unity that the staff and students have is what keeps me going during the dark times. The fact that we have God at our center is what keeps this school going. I am proud of my students that I talk to and teach every day.

I have been blessed to be a part of this community of believers: people who care about each other and about bringing God to St. Petersburg through teaching and our unity.

Student Tells Classmates About Jesus

Kids are the best evangelists. G. talked a lot about Jesus to his friends and classmates since the beginning of the year. One girl, B., had parents with a Catholic background, and seemed to have an idea about God. As G. persisted in sharing the Truth with her, B. accepted Jesus as her personal savior. G. said, “She used to be a mean girl in the class, but her attitude changed and she is nicer now.” PTL!

Teachers who bring transformational education practices to the classroom can be catalysts for their students’ evangelistic actions. This week several of the positions we are featuring are in countries where conversations between students may be the only way to share the good news of Jesus. Below are five openings for the 2017-18 school year. To browse all of our openings, go to the Opportunity Board on our website.
