Sparrow Project Update

Sparrow Project Update | October
“Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten by God.” - Luke 12:6.
The term ‘sparrow schools’ was coined to describe schools that are overlooked, under-resourced, and underfunded but never forgotten by God. Education is one of the primary drivers of alleviating poverty. Ensuring that all children, regardless of geography or socioeconomic background, have access to quality education drives the Sparrow Project. The Sparrow Project team recently wrapped up a two-week trip to Livingstone, Zambia to formally begin the training with the cohort of 27 teachers there. The 27 teachers are teaching at 7 private schools, 1 government school, and 4 Open Schools Worldwide programs. Collectively these teachers are impacting approximately 354 students through their teaching.
During this two-week period, the teachers complete Units 1 & 2, Biblical Worldview and the Gospel Story and How a Child Develops. One teacher commented at the end of the training, “Now I know that I don’t have to separate my faith in God and teaching. My faith should be impacting my teaching and now I am starting to see how that can happen.”
Started in 2020 in the Congo, the Sparrow Project offers a foundational Teacher Education Program to teachers and school leaders working in ‘sparrow schools’. Christian educators from the Sparrow Project train teachers working in the identified sparrow schools to teach from a Biblical perspective. Teachers are taught how their faith can be integrated in the classroom through their teaching and interacting with parents, students, and colleagues. Leaders are also mentored on leading with a Biblical perspective. The Sparrow Project believes that transformed teachers will transform the hearts of their students.
