International Christian School of Togo
Join a brand new school startup in West Africa
This new school startup opened September 2024 as a micro-school for a couple of missionary families with plans to grow into an international school focused especially on serving middle-to-upper class Togolese students.
What is the vision for the school?
Togo is a small country full of multi-dimensional poverty, impacting all aspects of life; it is also a country of people who are full of God-given abilities and capacities. TeachBeyond is in the process of establishing TeachBeyond Togo as well as the International Christian School of Togo (ICS Togo) to be part of God’s ongoing mission of transforming individuals and communities into all He intends. The mission of ICS Togo is to provide an excellent, international, Christian education to holistically shape the lives of those who will shape the nation. In order to impact those who are most likely to be the next generation of leaders in Togo and have the most opportunity to bring significant change to their country, ICS Togo seeks to serve especially middle-to-upper class Togolese families (along with students of other nationalities including missionary families).
What makes ICS Togo unique?
Transformational Christian education, excellent authentic Christian teachers, focus on discipleship, integrating biblical worldview and global mindedness into the curriculum, holistic education focusing on the student as a whole person, appropriate use of technology, small student/teacher ratios, equal opportunities for girls, intentional inclusion of students with differing needs, intentional focus on making a local and global impact for the glory of God, intentional focus on knowing, understanding, and applying God’s Word, engaging students in regular community service, and equipping a broad learning community with opportunities for parents, families, and the community.
What is the plan for the startup?
Currently, TeachBeyond has one missionary family (American-Togolese) serving in Togo and working to establish the future school (and other education services). During the first school year (2024-2025), the school is functioning as a micro-school, focusing on meeting the needs of missionary families. This small cohort of students will also serve as the launching pad to draw national students in subsequent years. The hope is for the regular school to ideally begin September 2025 with at least preschool (and possibly Kindergarten or even more grades) and each year a grade level would be added. The micro-school cohort would continue alongside the regular school to provide the missing grade levels, ideally with a few national students added into those multi-age groups as their language levels and school registration permit.
Who would be a good fit to teach at this school?
With a new school startup, especially in Africa, not too much can be counted on except uncertainty and the unexpected – along with God’s faithfulness and help. If that kind of challenge and adventure appeals to you (and you are a person who can be described as passionate, positive, flexible, and persistent), we’d love to have you join the team. For the 2024-2025 school year, we can still use another teacher who can help teach our small multi-age group of students (in 6 different grade levels!) like a homeschool parent would. This means that you don’t need to be a trained or certified teacher, although of course, that would be even better. If you are a trained classroom teacher, we would additionally love your help in shaping and planning for the regular school that seeks to serve especially middle-to-upper class Togolese families, along with students of other nationalities including missionary families. If desired, you would also have opportunities to help train the future local teachers of the school. Both those seeking only a one-year commitment as well as longer-term opportunities should apply.
