Dagoni School

Dagoni School (managed by Association Graine de Maesha) is located in Mamoudzou, the capital city of Mayotte, a French overseas region and department in the Indian Ocean.

In this parable told by Jesus (The Bible, Matthew 13); the seeds represent Life: This life ("Maesha" in Mahorese language) that God wants to give to each human being in abundance. "Graine de Maesha" (Seed of Life) is an association of those who sow: of those who want to work and cultivate the land to allow each seed, each life, each child, to grow in the most fulfilling universe possible.

The 3 objectives of the school are to sow seeds in the hearts of children so that they have access to eternal life, provide quality education, and have a school that is accessible to all.

It all started when three families were confronted with children who do not yet have access to the ordinary education system, particularly sick children. In September 2016, these families came together to provide education to their own children and began providing academic support to the kids of their neighbors who were not in school. United by their Christian faith and vision to help the children of Mayotte, the Graine de Maesha association was founded in 2017.

Between April 2017 and June 2019 we welcomed 58 children aged 3 to 16, with a maximum of 40 children simultaneously. The children were divided into 3 level groups with 1 to 2 supervisors per level. In continuation of this desire for accessibility to schooling for all children, the Graine de Maesha association began steps to create a school.

In 2021-2022, the first year the school opened, we had 1 teacher and 2 assistants for 27 students from kindergarten to CM2. In 2022-2023, we had 45 students divided into 6 classes from kindergarten to third grade. For the year 2023-2024, we had up to 70 students.
