Book Recommendations for Ministry Partner Development

At TeachBeyond we believe the term “Ministry Partner Development” gets to the heart of what we believe about our relationship with our donors. Fundraising is not a necessary evil, but rather, as Henri Nouwen describes: “Fundraising is, first and foremost, a form of ministry. It is a way of announcing our vision and inviting other people into our mission.” To gain more understanding of and to find encouragement about MPD, the department has compiled a list of books listed below.

-
The God Ask by Steve Shadrach: A comprehensive, biblical approach to personal support raising. [1]
-
God’s Presence in Your Fundraising by Scott Morton: A daily devotional aimed to refocus your support raising on the truth of Scripture.
-
The Spirituality of Fundraising by Henri Nouwen: A short, yet deeply reflective book on the wisdom and truth of fundraising.
-
Funding The Family Business by Myles Wilson: Specific to the UK, this valuable resource explores the biblical and practical sides of fundraising.
-
Friend Raising by Betty Barnett: Focuses on the pillars of relationships, generosity, communication, and prayer.
-
Funding Your Ministry by Scott Morton: A practical book written from personal experience to give ideas for broadening your support base.
- Getting Sent by Pete Sommer: A reminder of how God uses Christian community to send and provide for those raising support.
The MPD Team encourages you to read these books no matter what stage of fundraising you are in. Whether you’re fully funded or just starting out, support raising stretches you and calls you to remember that the One who called you is faithful. May these books be a guide back to that truth and an encouragement to press on in this good work.
