Book Recommendations for those Considering Missions

Each year, many individuals begin exploring what it might look like to serve internationally in a school setting.  

Once someone senses an interest in serving, a lot of questions can begin to surface. Where is God leading me? What role could I fill? How do I even begin to prepare? Can God really use me? These are big important questions, and while you may feel alone, you don’t have to navigate these questions alone.

1. Is the Commission Still Great? by Steve Richardson: Using personal experiences combined with stories from Scripture and history, Richardson breaks down eight common myths about missions and what they mean for the church. 
2. Called by God? By Stuart Buchanan: Offers advice to those who work with others who are discerning their calling to ministry. 
3. MissionSmart by David L Frazier: A practical guide to discerning God’s call, preparing wisely, and avoiding common pitfalls in long-term missions.  
4. The Next Right Thing by Emily P. Freeman: Who doesn’t struggle to make decisions? Consider this book if you deal with decision fatigue and need the advice: Do the next right thing.  
5. Let the Nations Be Glad by John Piper: A reminder that the true goal of missions is "the gladness of the peoples in the greatness of God." 
6. Global Humility by Andy McCullough: A call for missionaries to embrace listening, learning, and dependence on God as they serve cross-culturally.  
7. Ministering Cross-Culturally by Sherwood Lingenfelter and Marvin Mayers: An encouragement through personal stories to those striving to be salt and light in a culture different than their own.
