Go Beyond 2026: How TeachBeyond Is Equipping University Students for Global Missions

May, June, and July are known as Orientation season for TeachBeyond. Every year, dozens of new missionaries join virtual and in-person gatherings to meet key leaders, learn about the organization, and be equipped for service. It's a time of preparation and inspiration.

But this year at the Orientation in the United States, something was different – Go Beyond, TeachBeyond's brand-new program for university students.

What Is Go Beyond?

A dozen university students arrived on campus for Orientation, filled with a mix of uncertainty and anticipation about the summer. Coming from 11 universities across the United States, these students brought a heart for service, an interest in education, and a passion for the gospel.

Orientation Week: Vision Meets Practice

Throughout Orientation week, Go Beyond students participated in some of the same sessions as the new missionaries – TeachBeyond Mission and Vision, Introduction to Transformational Education, Safeguarding, and more – and had their own program-specific learning opportunities. Several evenings ended with regional testimony groups, where Go Beyond students mingled with missionary candidates, each one sharing how God had led them to this moment.

President David Durance deemed this Orientation group one of “youthful courage” - not only a nod to the Go Beyond students, but also to the enthusiastic obedience of participants of all ages.

By the end of the week, these students were family. One Go Beyonder, Mariam Zuehls from Taylor University, reflected, “I always thought Orientation was just a means to an end, something I had to get through. I wasn't expecting it to be so impactful. If this was the whole summer, it would be worth it!”

But, of course, this was only the beginning! With tearful goodbyes and a final prayer, they dispersed to four different international locations, where they would be living, learning, and serving for six weeks. Orientation was the launch into an unforgettable summer experience.
