Kilometers for Kids 2025

This June, for the sixth year in a row, people on 5 continents again participated in “Kilometers for Kids,” a global fundraiser for the marginalized children served by Open Schools Worldwide. Running, walking, or cycling, they generated funds through donor pledges for each kilometer they put in. Others gave set donations for OSWW. Folks participated in the UK, Canada, USA, South Africa, Germany, Ireland, Croatia, Greece, Brazil, Australia, the Dominican Republic and Zambia. In Malawi, Ghana, Liberia, Zambia & South Africa, children from Open Schools projects took to the streets with singing, dancing and signs to communicate the value of education, Open Schools Worldwide and God’s love.
Shannon Sawatzky, after cycling 100kms on trails in Manitoba, Canada, said: “I’m a music teacher at a public school and a triathlete. Any chance I get to combine the two things I’m passionate about to help those miles make a difference for kids, I’m all in.”
This year’s donations are ear-marked, among other things, for the publication of our Level 2 workbooks, which are being developed to provide a follow-up, for those children who have completed our basic level program, but have no opportunity to carry on, usually due to the lack of schools in their remote locations.
It will take some time before we know how many funds were generated through Kilometers for Kids last weekend, but it’s very encouraging to see folks around the world showing love for these disadvantaged children, by getting out and completing some kilometers and/or donating to Open Schools. We know that God will honor these efforts and they will help provide many more children with “hope through life-changing learning,” as well as help build His kingdom. (By the way, it’s not too late to add a contribution to Kilometers for Kids at www.osww.org/km4k.)
