TeachBeyond Africa Announces New Vocational School & Christian Learning Center in Uganda

TeachBeyond Uganda has partnered with Youth Consult to provide literacy, numeracy, and vocational training in Butambala Village, Uganda. The district has over 70% illiteracy rate, most of which is youth. 

The youth of this area have often turned out jobless, because of not being able to attain an education. This is often due to factors such as poverty, early marriages, low scores on final exams, and dropouts, due to an inability to see the importance of an education that trains youth to make a living. There is also little access to job skills training.

Recent events in Uganda show that high-quality Christian education is essential.  

The purpose of Butambala Christian Learning Center is to provide opportunities for intentional discipleship and holistic education, including literacy, numeracy, skills training, and business skills for youth, who may not otherwise have the prospect to attend formal school programs. Butambala Vocational School will have a broader community transformation as it creates businesses and employment opportunities and, most importantly, shares the love of Christ. Butambala Vocational School will utilize a dynamic combination of curriculums, all rooted in Biblical foundations, to provide a comprehensive approach to education. Partnerships with Open Schools Worldwide, Work for Life (entrepreneurship and business management training) and locals teaching trade skills will make all of this possible!

Youth Consult has already purchased the land, and there is a local team ready to manage the day-to-day operations and teaching at the vocational school. In mid-November the team broke ground for the vocational training center! The ground has been cleared, the foundation poured and walls are going up right now. The construction has gone much quicker than so many of us anticipated. Alongside construction, a well has been dug and they recently hit water! This well will provide access to water not only for the school, but also to many in the community.

Renovations at the preschool are beginning mid-December, in preparation for those students to start in early February, after the school holidays. The vocational school will hold its first day of classes in early March!

We are so excited to see how the Lord will use Butambala Christian Learning Center as a tool for Transformation in this community.
