French Teacher
Position Summary
We are seeking a French Teacher who will deliver high-quality French language instruction to students, fostering strong communication skills, cultural understanding, and global awareness. The teacher will create an engaging, student-centred learning environment that supports language acquisition at multiple levels and aligns with international curriculum standards.
Key Responsibilities – reporting to the Head of Languages, your key responsibilities will include:
Teaching & Learning
- Plan and deliver high-quality, effective French lessons to students across assigned grade levels, by developing engaging learning materials
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to support diverse learning styles and language proficiency levels
- Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
- Integrate components of the French culture to enhance student engagement
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and parents to support growth and development
- Contribute to the development, review, and enhancement of the French curriculum
- Ensure curriculum continuity, progression, and alignment across grade levels
Classroom Management & Pastoral Care
- Create a safe, inclusive, respectful learning environment that supports all learners
- Manage classroom behaviour effectively using school policies and restorative approaches
- Provide pastoral support to students and contribute to the school’s homeroom programme, if assigned
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessments, and student performance
- Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, and school leadership
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous improvement in teaching practices
- Participate in staff meetings, school events, and collaborative planning sessions
- Contribute to extracurricular activities such as clubs, competitions, and school events
- Uphold the school’s mission, values, and safeguarding standards
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in French, Modern Languages, Education, Linguistics, or related field
- Teaching qualification / certification
- Experience teaching French (native or near-native proficiency)
- Strong English communication skills (spoken and written)
- Understanding of international school environments and multicultural classrooms
- Ability to work effectively with students from diverse cultural backgrounds
Preferred
- Familiarity with Cambridge International Curriculum
- Experience teaching multiple proficiency levels
- Ability to support extracurricular programs (e.g. French Club, language competitions, trips).
