Science Teacher(s)
1. Position Summary
We are seeking a General Science Teacher who will deliver high-quality teaching across our Secondary school, at least up to and including Cambridge IGCSE level, with the possibility of teaching some AS & A Level Science, according to the school’s curriculum and grade-level needs. The teacher will be committed to academic excellence as well as fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and analytical skills while creating an engaging, student-centred learning environment.
2. Key Responsibilities – reporting to the Head of Science, your key responsibilities will include:
Teaching & Learning
- Teach Cambridge IGCSE Science, including Biology, Chemistry, and/or Physics, depending on expertise
- Plan and deliver engaging, well-structured lessons aligned with Cambridge curriculum frameworks and assessment objectives
- Use inquiry-based, practical, and student-centred approaches to promote scientific understanding and critical thinking
- Design and supervise safe laboratory experiments in line with Cambridge requirements
- Support and, where appropriate, contribute to AS & A Level Science teaching
- Prepare students effectively for internal and external assessments
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to support diverse learners and promote inquiry, discussion, and analytical thinking
- Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and parents to support growth and development
- Contribute to curriculum planning, review, and development within the Science department
- Ensure curriculum continuity, progression, and alignment across grade levels
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessments, and student performance
Classroom Management & Pastoral Care
- Create a safe, inclusive, respectful learning environment that supports all learners
- Manage classroom behaviour effectively using school policies and restorative approaches
- Provide pastoral support to students and contribute to the school’s homeroom programme, if assigned
- Support students’ academic, social, and emotional development
Professional Responsibilities
- Collaborate with colleagues to improve teaching practice and student outcomes
- Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, and school leadership
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous improvement in teaching practices
- Participate actively in departmental/staff meetings, professional learning, and school events
- Contribute to extracurricular activities such as competitions and STEM initiatives
- Uphold the school’s mission, values, and safeguarding standards
3. Qualifications & Experience
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Science subject(s)
- Recognised teaching qualification / certification
- Experience teaching Science at secondary level
- Strong classroom management and organisational skills
- Commitment to high standards of teaching, learning, and student care
- Strong English communication skills (spoken and written)
- Ability to work effectively with students from diverse cultural backgrounds
Preferred (Advantage)
- Some experience teaching Cambridge AS & A Level Science
- Strong subject specialism in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics
- Familiarity with Cambridge IGCSE or a comparable international curriculum
- Experience in an international school context
- Confidence with assessment moderation and data-informed instruction
- Interest in STEM enrichment or co-curricular science activities
- Experience with digital learning tools (e.g., Google Workspace, interactive platforms)
