Challenged & Equipped for Future Ministry, Reflections from ESL Camp in Brazil

“I developed my English a lot, and God spoke to me in many ways,” said a participant from an ESL Camp in Goiania, Brazil this summer. “I feel much more confident to be guided by God in my life and to develop my calling to serve God.”

This July 4-8, 33 seminary students had the opportunity to improve their English during the English Camp. These young missionaries are preparing to serve the Lord Jesus in other nations.

“Camp week was a very special as it was held in partnership with YWAM (Youth with a Mission). These were intense days, full of learning, fun and immersion in the English language and culture. We could see many hearts that love Jesus and want to make Him known,” shares Denise Keller Lüdcke, ESL Camp Consultant for Brazil and Latin America.

“We had American teachers who served with excellence and made English more accessible to many young people,” she continues. “The participants felt challenged to continue studying and gained a better understanding of the importance of English for their future ministry, wherever the Lord sends them.”

One participant said, “I was motivated to learn more English, to use it in sharing Jesus in other parts of the world.”

Another student said that this experience helped her a lot in her missionary life. She will go to another nation, and what she learned in this camp will be a great help to her in being able to share the message of the good news in Jesus.

Since TeachBeyond (then Janz Team) started an ESL Camp ministry in the late 1980s in Europe, our Informal Education programs have expanded to Latin America and Asia. They have also expanded from offering summer camps to English Language Centres on multiple continents. Future plans are looking at possibilities in 2 African countries as well.

Keller Lüdcke added, “Our wish is that these young missionaries have been challenged and encouraged to serve the Lord Jesus wherever they are. And may Jesus be glorified through the life of each one of them.”
