Assistant Translator/Coordinator

This person will work with the translation coordinator to manage translation projects and translation personnel.  

This opportunity requires an applicant that is fluent in English and at least one (preferably 2) of the following languages: Spanish, French, German, Portuguese. 

Responsibilities:

  • Translate and proofread translations in your assigned languages.
  • Manage translation projects in 2 of our 4 language pairs
  • Supervise some translation specialists and associates
  • Keep our term base/glossary up to date
  • Assist the Translation Coordinator in their duties, this could range from:
    • Creating the monthly team newsletter.
    • Onboarding associates and volunteers.
    • Creating a budget for the Translation team.
    • Perform quality assurance checks on each project.

Qualifications:

 

  • Current certificate of fluency in French, German, Spanish, or Portuguese required.
  • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in translation strongly preferred.
  • Undergraduate degree (or home-country equivalent) in French, German, Spanish or Portuguese Language, or Translation preferred.
  • Proven leadership and administrative experience, with the ability to provide consultative guidance and cultivate available resources to respond to needs
  • Professional experience in a Christian faith-based non-profit organization preferred
  • Experience with industry standard CAT tools preferred (Phrase, Trados, Smart Cat etc.)

This opportunity is a remote and support based position. Pay is based on the applicant's own ability to raise funds for their salary; paid via donor or self-support.

TYPE OF POSITION: Full-time (35+ hrs/week), Part-time (20-35 hrs/week)
