ESL Teacher
FIA is seeking a nurturing, committed teacher for our English Language Learners. Many of FIA’s students speak English as a second (or possibly third) language.
This teacher would provide critical help to our students struggling with English. This position would also include collaboration with and training of other instructional staff in effective strategies for ELLs. A trained teacher with 1-2 years of experience is preferred.
Qualifications:
- Possess a love for Christ and students.
- Have a vital, growing relationship with Christ.
- Are a regular member of their local church.
- Agree wholeheartedly to the FIA Statement of Faith.
- Hold or pursuing appropriate professional credential, certification, and degree.
- Teaching experience appropriate to assignment.
Essential Functions:
Academic
- Teach classes and courses as assigned following FIA adopted curriculum
- Plan using unit/semester/quarterly plans and objectives.
- Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students, challenging each to his/her potential.
- Utilize best practices teaching techniques to achieve curriculum goals within the framework of the philosophy.
- Assess the learning of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
- Integrate Biblical principles and a Christian philosophy of education throughout the curriculum and activities.
Professional:
- Keep proper discipline in the classroom and on the school premises for a good learning environment.
- Maintain a clean, attractive, well-ordered classroom.
- Cooperate with administration in implementing policies and procedures governing the school.
- Inform the administration in a timely manner if unable to fulfill any duty assigned. Prepare adequate information and materials for a substitute teacher.
- Prioritize FIA responsibilities above outside ministry commitments.
- Be on time and present on campus from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm on school or inservice days.
- Respond to correspondence in a timely manner.
- Know and comply with the school practices as stated in the faculty handbook and student-parent handbook.
- Manage and update data on school software (T: drive and Curriculum Trak online) in a timely manner.
- Work within the supervision, evaluation and professional development framework to maintain an attitude of professional growth and lifelong learning.
- Attend and participate in assigned meetings, curriculum and professional development and accreditation work.
- Attend and participate in scheduled in-service, retreats, committee, faculty, and Parent Teacher meetings.
Spiritual
- Demonstrate Christ-like role model to students and their parents.
- Motivate students to accept God's gift of salvation and help them grow in their faith through their witness and Christian role modeling.
Interpersonal
- Recognize the need for good public relations. Represent the school in a favorable and professional manner to the school's constituency and the general public.
- Develop and maintain rapport with students, parents, and staff by treating them with friendliness, dignity, and consideration.
- Follow Christian principles in dealing with conflict with students, parents, staff, and administration
- Seek the counsel of the administrator, colleagues, and parents while maintaining a teachable attitude.
Supplemental Functions:
- Supervise extracurricular activities, organizations, and outings as assigned.
- Utilize educational opportunities and evaluation processes for professional growth.
- Provide input and constructive recommendations for administrative and managerial functions in the school.
- Perform any other duties as agreed upon with the Executive Team.
