School/Guidance Counsellor
The position of School Counsellor plays a pivotal role in the academic life of Bingham Academy. Our school counselors help students attain an optimum level of personal and social adjustment to achieve their highest academic potential by reducing social and psychological barriers to learning. The successful candidate will have the ability to give children and young adults the guidance and support needed, especially when it comes to dealing with personal, familial and social pressures. As a school counselor you’ll first and foremost listen to students’ concerns and then act as an advocate for students’ well-being.
We are looking for someone who is qualified and experienced to help students with issues such as bullying, family issues, low self-esteem, poor mental health, and relationship troubles. You can refer them to a psychologist or mental health counselor for further treatment if necessary.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in psychology, counseling or related field
- Teaching Licence, Qualification or Credential (preferred, but not required)

- Child safety awareness and knowledge of when to refer on to specialists for further treatment

Responsibilities:
- Provide individual counseling, group guidance, or classroom support to help students cope effectively. Either upon referral basis or observation basis.
- Update and maintain confidential student records and other department records
- Identify students with special needs and make appropriate recommendations and referrals.
- Identify classroom needs and create group sessions (bullying, friendships, healthy coping etc..).
- Assist with enrollment and kindergarten round-up, and make recommendations for school practices such as trauma informed approaches to students
- Consult with parents, teachers and outside resources like psychologists as needed to create needed support for students.
- Carry out all assigned duties with confidentiality and professionalism
- Serve in a broad range of responsibilities as requested by administration
- Communicate timely and professionally with stakeholders as needed
- Participate in ongoing professional development
