Special Education Teacher
The SPED Teacher at FIA works with teachers and students who need support to improve their learning in a regular classroom due to their intellectual, social, emotional, or physical abilities.
Reporting Responsibilities: Report to their Lead Teacher.
Qualifications:
Possess a love for Christ and for students.
Have a vital, growing relationship with Christ.
Are a regular member of their local church.
Agree wholeheartedly with the FIA Statement of Faith.
Hold or pursuing appropriate professional credentials, certifications, and degrees.
Experience with supporting students within a mainstream classroom.
Essential Functions:
- Organize Individual Education Plan meetings for all students identified with a learning disability, with their parents and teachers - leading to development, writing, implementation, monitoring, and updating of the individual education plans (IEPs).
- Demonstrate knowledge of specialized methodology for teaching students with learning disabilities.
- Demonstrate knowledge of assistive technologies.
- Utilize best teaching practices to achieve curriculum goals within the framework of Christian education philosophy.
- Integrate Biblical principles and a Christian philosophy of education throughout the curriculum and activities.
- Prioritize FIA responsibilities above outside ministry commitments.
- Attend and participate in assigned meetings, curriculum and professional development, and accreditation work.
- Attend and participate in scheduled in-service, retreats, committee, faculty, and Parent-Teacher meetings.
- Demonstrate Christ-like role model to students and their parents.
- Motivate students to accept God's gift of salvation and help them grow in their faith through their witness and Christian role modeling.
- Develop and maintain rapport with students, parents, and staff by treating them with friendliness, dignity, and consideration.
- Follow Christian principles in dealing with conflict with students, parents, staff, and administration.
- Supervise extracurricular activities, organizations, and outings as assigned.
- Utilize educational opportunities and evaluation processes for professional growth.
- Provide input and constructive recommendations for administrative and managerial functions in the school.
- Perform any other duties as agreed upon with the Executive Team.
