Ukarumpa International School
Ukarumpa International School (UIS) is located in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea on the center of operations for the Summer Institute of Linguistics in PNG (SIL-PNG). SIL began work in PNG in 1956 and a primary school was opened, followed by a secondary school. In 1996, Ukarumpa High School and Aiyura Primary School combined under the name Ukarumpa International School.
UIS serves children in pre-K through Grade 12 and is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Though the school primarily supports missionary children, we also have some national and other expatriate children. The school has approximately 200-250 students from more than fifteen different nations. Curriculum is primarily, but not exclusively, North American and all instruction is in English.
UIS's vision is to promote Godly, life-long learners.
UIS Teachers live on the SIL-PNG Centre of Operations at Ukarumpa. The centre offers a clinic staffed with expatriate and national medical professionals, a store (often stocked with imported Western goods), an aviation department with fixed wing plane and helicopters, a market filled with fresh fruits and vegetables as well as local handcrafts and artifacts, two Sunday services (one in English and the other in the local trade language, Tok Pisin), and a Staff Care department. Numerous community events occur throughout the year.
We invite you to visit the Ukarumpa International School website to learn more about UIS, Ukarumpa, and Papua New Guinea. We believe that you will discover what we already know, that UIS is a Great Place to Teach!
